Dr. Lisa M. Lewis is the inaugural Calvin Bland Fellow, Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion at University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. For the past 17 years, Dr. Lewis has conducted research to reduce racial disparities in high blood pressure in the Black community by examining factors associated with hypertension
self-management. Her most recent work is testing an innovative and interdisciplinary diversion program to reduce incarceration rates among Black men by addressing their health, education and social needs. She has mentored numerous undergraduate and graduate students in health disparities research. In recognition ofher dedication to teaching and mentorship, she received the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching University of Pennsylvania and the Trustees' Council of Penn Women's 25th Anniversary Award for Excellence in Advising in 2019. Dr. Lewis was appointed a Penn Fellow in 2015, is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing (AAN), American Heart Association (AHA), and member at large for the CVSN Leadership Committeeof the American Heart Association.
